Professor Yang Qin Attends the 4th Meeting of the First Academic Committee of the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Resource and Environmental Effects of Major Geological Events

On July 16, the 4th Meeting of the First Academic Committee of the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Resource and Environmental Effects of Major Geological Events was held in Xiushan County, Chongqing. The meeting was attended by invited committee members, including Academician Zhu Min, Director of the Academic Committee and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); Vice Director and CAS Academician Shen Shuzhong from Nanjing University; CAS Academicians Zhou Zhonghe and Zhu Maoyan; CAS Academician Zou Caineng from the PetroChina Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration & Development; CAS Researchers Zhan Renbin and Wang Yi; Professor Zhang Jianping from China University of Geosciences; and Professor Yang Qin from Beihang University. During the meeting, Researcher Xiao Keyan from the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences was added as a new member of the Academic Committee.
The meeting reviewed the laboratory's annual research achievements and focused on frontier areas such as early life evolution, strategic mineral metallogeny, and deep-time geological data integration. Academicians and experts emphasized the need to accelerate the integration of geology and AI, promoting the quantification, visualization, and intelligence of geosciences, and leveraging digitalization to support national resource security. Professor Yang Qin proposed building a trusted and open data environment to pool Chongqing's geological resources for research and corporate training. He also suggested leveraging Chongqing's leading digital models to train geological AI large models capable of autonomously learning spatial structures and enabling intelligent generation from incomplete data, thereby improving forward and inverse modeling efficiency. Furthermore, he recommended using AI to interpret monitoring data in real time, empowering resource exploration and geological disaster early warning.
Originating from the State Key Laboratory of Software Development Environment at the School of Computer Science, Beihang University, GridWorld specializes in 3D geological modeling and simulation technologies, and recently launched the tEgg generative geological large model. Previously, GridWorld was deeply involved in Chongqing's 1:50,000 scale geological modeling across the entire municipality, earning widespread industry recognition. Looking ahead, GridWorld will continue to align with the innovation needs of geoscience research in western China and deepen industry-academia-research collaboration with institutions such as the Chongqing Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources. By empowering the study of major geological events and strategic mineral exploration with 3D modeling and intelligent computing technologies, GridWorld aims to contribute digital solutions to the protection and sustainable utilization of geological resources.
