Shannon received his M.S. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his B.S. in Computer Science from the Ohio University. Most recently he worked as a Research Scientist at General Electric's Global Research Center in the Visualization and Computer Vision and Advanced Computing Technologies Laboratories where he researched areas of high performance and distributed computing as well as algorithm design for medical image segmentation and analysis. Shannon's research areas include high-performance and distributed computing, grid computing, middleware systems for large scale distributed scientific data management, distributed image management and analysis frameworks, large scale service-based software systems designs, and software quality and testing concepts and frameworks.
