Speaker: Bob Thome, Director, Grid Computing, Oracle.
Grid Computing is steadily changing the look of the modern data center. However, there are fundamental differences between the workloads running in a traditional HPC/technical grid, and those typical in the data center. Whereas HPC grids are challenged to provision compute resources for a single application, or perhaps thousands of batch jobs, data centers must manage the complexity of provisioning resources for mixed application workloads--workloads that require the highest quality of service in an environment dominated by hundreds or even thousands of unpredictable interactive users. This session will explore the issues important for managing grids in the data center, issues that go well beyond compute cycles to include storage, applications, databases, and information.
