Speaker: Una Du Noyer, Head of Infrastructure & Engineering, Capgemini.
The session discusses the business challenges of implementing a virtualized Data Centre. The Data Centre is built on shared services that are layered on shared infrastructure, incorporating grid technologies; and as we move from an ownership to a services model, organizations are dealing with new challenges that are not all technical. How to meter, and bill or chargeback, for the services consumed? How to remove internal barriers, and be able to prioritize allocation for IT resources across the demands of multiple departments? How can we "normalize", for charging purposes, a grid infrastructure comprising multiple platforms with different processing characteristics?
The session discusses some possible approaches and identifies the emergence of new business models, including trusted partnerships and capacity brokering. It discusses some examples where the author has worked with global organizations who are facing these challenges, and some of the ideas and suggestions that have been proposed to help reach a resolution.
