TB5:  Case Study - Fit to the Grids: Increasing Quality and Reducing Costs at Rabobank
09/12/2006, 1:30 PM - 2:15 PM

Speaker:
Frank Kroon, Global Infrastructure Engineer, Capgemini.

At Rabobank standardization of IT Infrastructure services started years ago. During the last 5 years the major components are managed in a highly Industrialized fashion: the typical mechanism is to define a policy that will be applied to 10's or 100's of instances, rather than managing the individual instances. Now all applications are offered services on a grid of instances, rather than a discrete instance. This model is applied for web servers, application servers, database servers, Identity management services, Computing Services, Connectivity Services: in fact for each required component. New applications no longer require infrastructure investments: transaction based costing and continuous capacity management prevail over Project Investment Budgets and Sizing efforts.
