Speaker: Robert Schuler, Programmer/Analyst, USC Information Sciences Institute.
In this talk, we will present two Globus Toolkit 4.0.2 components used for data replication, the Replica Location Service and the Data Replication Service.
The Replica Location Service (RLS) is a distributed registry service that records the locations of data copies and allows discovery of replicas. The RLS maintains mappings between logical identifiers and target names. We discuss the design and implementation of the RLS, the client interfaces, the use of RLS in production Grid environments and our performance and scalability measurements of RLS. We will present the two main components of the RLS: the Local Replica Catalog and the distributed Replica Location index. We will discuss the implementation of the system and describe recently added functionality such as the new WS-RF interface to RLS.
The Data Replication Service (DRS) combines the functionality of the Replica Location Service and the Reliable File Transfer Service. DRS is a WS-RF service that creates replicas of a set of files at specified locations and registers the newly-created replicas in the Replica Location Service. We describe the functionality of the DRS, its interfaces and performance.
Finally, we discuss plans for future development in RLS, DRS and other services, including the use of embedded databases and simplified deployment of RLS, adding persistence to DRS and adding fine-grained authorization to RLS.
