Speaker: Steve Tuecke, Chief Technology Officer, Univa Corporation.
Grid software such as Globus provides the immediate benefit of resource sharing and the ability to more efficiently use computational resources, but this is, in some respects, a secondary benefit. The primary benefit is its support for information sharing and collaboration among distributed research and design teams. Univa will present a case study from the high-tech manufacturing industry that illustrates how a Globus-based solution can be used to manage large, distributed data sets in the context of a strategic business process. The result is a significant reduction in information management overhead and increased designer productivity without requiring major upheaval to existing IT infrastructure.
