SB7:  Globus Solutions Overview - Production Use in eBusiness and eScience
09/12/2006, 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM

Speaker:
Dr. Ian Foster, Chief Open Source Strategist, Argonne National Laboratory, University of Chicago, Univa Corp.

Globus software provides a range of relatively low-level mechanisms that address challenging problems in distributed resource federation, such as security, discovery, access, data movement, and service construction. As is often pointed out, these mechanisms are *not* what the average application programmer wants to use when "gridifying" an application. Fortunately, the Globus community has used those mechanisms to construct a wide range of higher-level solutions that address various application problems, such as distributed data management, workflow execution, content distribution, and community management. I provide a broad picture of some of the more popular solutions, and give examples of how they are being applied to deliver value in eBusiness and eScience.
