  VP of engineering, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
 Mr. Parkinson is responsible for the R & D and engineering of Sun Grid Compute
Utility. Under his direction, the engineering team develops this new area of utility
computing using Sun technologies: Sun Servers, Solaris 10, N1 Grid Engine, Java, Sun Storage and Sun Services. Mr. Parkinson is also responsible for the deployment and operations of Sun Grid worldwide.
Parkinson has been with Sun for 19 years, most recently in the role of
US Vice President of Client Solutions, where he built this organization
to provide customers a better focus on business problems. Previously he
served as Vice President of Technology and Solutions and was responsible
for leading the team that supported the US sales force and Sun's US
customer base. Jim has also held other various positions in the US field
organization in Sales and Systems Engineering. Jim is a recipient of the
2005 Sun Leadership Award, presented to acknowledge leadership skills of
Sun's Vice Presidents and Directors.
Prior to joining Sun, Parkinson worked for Computervision Corporation as
a development engineer. Prior to leaving CV he worked on the historic
port of Cadds4 to the startup Sun Microsystems Sun2 product line.
Previous to CV, Jim worked as a design engineer at Harnischfeger
Corporation,pioneering the use of Cad/Cam systems in the design of large
scale construction equipment.
